Clay, Chaos, and the New Maturity Podcast

I recently shared my story on The New Maturity podcast, and I still can’t believe I qualify as “mature” at 48.

At 25, I lost my sight to bacterial meningitis—two days before 9/11. That moment rewrote everything. Since then, I’ve gone from a food studies grad student to a wine bar owner, and now, a blind potter in Los Angeles. My backyard studio is where I shape clay by touch and live out my mantra: “Stronger than dirt.”

I spoke on the podcast about recovery, reinvention, and how losing control can sometimes give you a whole new kind of power.

Turns out, being “mature” doesn’t mean having it all figured out. Just being willing to start again—again and again.

Cheers,

DK
